Subsidies for PV systems in 2023: Everything you need to know

The 2023 PV subsidy brings good news for homeowners. With the launch of the new subsidy program on September 26, 2023, interested parties can receive up to €10,200 for the expansion of their private charging infrastructure. But which PV systems are eligible for subsidies, and what exactly is subsidized for a PV system ? You can find an overview here.

Combined funding through the KfW Program 442. The "Solar Power for Electric Vehicles" program, administered by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), is specifically aimed at homeowners who want to power their electric vehicles with self-generated electricity from their photovoltaic systems. Both PV systems and energy storage systems and wall boxes are supported.

What exactly is being funded? Thanks to the 2023 PV system funding program, applicants can apply for funding for:

  1. Charging stations with at least 11 kW charging capacity.
  2. Photovoltaic systems with a capacity of at least 5 kWp.
  3. Power storage with a capacity of at least 5 kWh.
  4. Additional installation and modernization measures to ensure smooth integration.

However, not all PV systems and components are subsidized. For example, hybrid vehicles, company cars, and new buildings are excluded from PV subsidies before they are occupied.

Funding in detail: How much can you receive? A flat-rate subsidy of €600 is granted for the wallbox. However, for bidirectional charging stations, the subsidy doubles to €1,200. For photovoltaic systems, the 2023 PV subsidy amounts to €600 per kWp, up to a maximum of €6,000. For electricity storage systems, the subsidy is €250 per kWh, up to a maximum of €3,000.

If you are wondering which PV systems are subsidized in North Rhine-Westphalia or other federal states, the main criterion is that the system is located on an existing building that is occupied by the applicant himself.

Concluding Thoughts on Photovoltaics Funding in 2023: The decarbonization of the transport sector and the transition to green electricity are key goals for Germany. The 2023 PV funding program will provide crucial support for this transition. Therefore, anyone considering investing in a PV system should seize the opportunity and benefit from the attractive funding options.
